The cryptocurrency Litecoin (LTC) is confusingly similar to Bitcoin: Litecoin also wants to establish itself as a means of payment, manages all transactions via a peer-to-peer network and uses blockchain technology.
Like Bitcoin, Litecoin can be exchanged for real money on a number of crypto exchanges.
The Litecoin blockchain does not generate new blocks every 10 minutes, but every 2.5 minutes, which means that it generates four times as many coins as Bitcoin.
Reason enough to invest in Litecoin.
Since Litecoin has some differences to Ethereum or Bitcoin, there are also differences when buying. Above all, one should pay attention to the following factors:

Now we are going to show you how to get Litecoin into your portfolio. We use the broker Roinvesting for this, as it offers the unique advantage that you can buy both real cryptocurrencies and CFDs – thus combining the benefits of a broker and an exchange.
We will go into the difference between a broker and an exchange below.
First, you register with a broker or a crypto exchange.
For our example, we have chosen Roinvesting because we can hold Litcoin here as well as acquire Litecoin derivatives for speculation.
First, we click the link to register for Roinvesting:
In the form we enter username, email and password and accept the terms and conditions:
We then receive an email for verification in which we click on the link to confirm the account.
In the next step, we have to top up our account with money in order to be able to buy LTC. To do this, we click on the “Deposit money” button at ROinvesting:
Then we select the amount and the method of payment with which we would like to deposit, and then click on the “Send” button to deposit the amount.
In our example, we show the purchase with a credit card. Roinvesting also offers other deposit options :
Payment option | Possible? |
Buy Litecoin with a credit card | ✔️ |
Buy Litecoin with PayPal | ✔️ |
Buy Litecoin with Rapid Transfer | ✔️ |
Buy Litecoin with Skrill | ✔️ |
Buy Litecoin with bank transfer | ✔️ |
Buy Litecoin with Neteller | ✔️ |
Buy Litecoin with UnionPay | ✔️ |
Now that we have topped up our account, we can begin the actual LTC purchase. To do this, we click into the search field above and enter “IOTA” there.
Then we click on the “Trade” button:
The purchase window then opens. Here we have the following options:
After we have configured all options, we click on the ” Open Trade ” button to complete the purchase.
Then we have the LTC in our portfolio, the purchase is complete!
A further distinction between Litecoin and Bitcoin consists in measures that Litecoin, a centralization of the mining, prevents attempts.
For this purpose, the Altcoin (for the meaning, see Buying Altcoins ) relies on a function that is supposed to facilitate mining with commercially available hardware (especially GPUs). Nevertheless, there have been ASIC-based miners for a long time that achieve hash rates comparable to GPUs – but with a fraction of the power consumption.
Litecoin was released in October 2011 by developer and former Google employee Charlie Lee. In terms of market capitalization , Litecoin is the eighth largest cryptocurrency on the market at around $ 1.8 billion in December 2018 .
In May 2017 Litecoin implemented the first cryptocurrency, the update Segregated Witness (short: SegWit), which was originally designed to address weaknesses in the Bitcoin source code. SegWit also increases the scalability of blocks in the Bitcoin or Litecoin blockchain.
Shortly afterwards, the first crypto transaction was carried out with Litecoin via the Lightning Network: 0.00000001 LTC were transferred from Zurich to San Francisco – in less than a second.
Our recommendation: Buy cryptos at Roinvesting
Buy Litecoin: If you want to get into Litecoin trading, you have to choose between a variety of exchanges.
What you want to pay with plays a role: Do you want to pay Litecoin with Bitcoin , or do you prefer to pay in euros via an instant transfer? Two of our recommended exchanges are presented below: One for the first, one for the other payment option. We will guide you through the entire process.
Instead of buying Litecoin, you can also rely on price fluctuations. This works via derivatives that certain crypto brokers have on offer.
For this we advise you to deal with the market regularly. You should only invest as much money as you are willing to lose.
Our instructions expressly do not represent a purchase recommendation and serve only as a guide.
Getting started with trading Litecoin is particularly quick via Binance. Unlike most crypto exchanges, Binance does not require you to be verified. Do you have some Bitcoin ready by now?
Very good: Then just read on to get your first Litecoin particularly quickly.
Buying Litecoin with Binance first of all requires your registration with Binance: Create your account using this link. After you have entered your details, you will receive an email with an activation link.
Follow the link in the email to activate your Binance account.
If you like, you can now set up two-factor authentication to better protect your Binance account. The two-factor authentication increases the security of your Binance account significantly. But you can also wait and do the 2FA activation later via your account settings.
The Litecoin Buy without verification is possible with Binance.
Now transfer a BTC amount from your Bitcoin wallet or another exchange account to Binance. To transfer your Bitcoin, click on Binance in the header on Funds> Deposits and select Bitcoin. You will then be shown a public key address to which you can deposit your coins. This is the address to which you send the bitcoins that you want to exchange for Litecoin. Waiting times of 30 minutes and more are not uncommon at Binance at this point. You can track the progress of your transfer under order management> order history.
Tip: We advise you to transfer only a test amount first before sending large sums to Binance. This is how you can make sure that everything is working as intended.
After your transfer has been received by Binance, you can now exchange your Bitcoin for Litecoin. To do this, click on Exchange> Basic in the header.
Then click on BTC in the upper right corner and select the currency pair BTC / LTC from the list to exchange your Bitcoin for Litecoin. If you’ve done everything right, Litecoin (LTC) will now appear at the bottom above the “Buy – Sell” box.
To buy Litecoin, you have to pay with BTC. Enter the desired Litecoin amount (LTC) in the purchase mask.
Now you can, if you want, determine the price at which you want to buy your Litecoin. To do this, select “Limit” via the input mask and enter your desired price. Then click on the green “Buy” field. As soon as the market value you set is reached, your Bitcoin (BTC) will automatically be exchanged for Litecoin.
Instead of your own, you can also use the current market price. To do this, click on “Market” next to it instead of on “Limit” and then on the green “Buy” field. Your Litecoin should then appear in your balance as soon as possible.
Tip 1: Buying Litecoin at Binance is particularly cheap: Binance charges a small fee for trading between different cryptocurrencies . If you purchase Binance’s own currency BNB in small quantities and activate the “Pay transaction fees in BNB ” field in your profile, Binance will grant you a 25% discount on these fees.
Tip 2: To exchange your Litecoin for Bitcoin again, simply follow steps 1-3 again and this time uses the “Sell” input mask instead of the “Buy” box.
Buy Litecoin with euros on AnycoinDirect: The Dutch exchange AnycoinDirect enables a quick and easy entry into trading with cryptocurrencies such as Litecoin (LTC).
Here you can get your first own Litecoin in just 15 minutes. Follow our instructions for buying Litecoin with Sofortüberweisung or SEPA step by step.
Many different cryptocurrencies can be bought on AnycoinDirect – including Litecoin. A special feature of the Dutch crypto exchange is that it sends your coins directly to your wallet after receipt of payment, instead of storing them in your profile.
So before you can get started, you first need a wallet for Litecoin, for example, the LTC wallet Electrum.
Buying Litecoin at AnycoinDirect is easy. We’ll show you how to do it:
Of course, you have to register on the platform in the first step.
The required information includes your full name, your place of residence as well as your email address and a password of your choice.
Buying Litecoin without verification is unfortunately not possible on AnycoinDirect. AnycoinDirect also regulates how much money you can spend.
To do this, it uses a level system with five levels. After registering, you are at level 1. You can already buy your first coins now; however, your trade is subject to weekly buy and sell limits. For example, you can buy crypto coins at the lowest level via instant transfer for a maximum of € 250 per week. At the highest level (level 5 ), however, the purchase limit via instant transfer is € 25,000 per week.
In order to increase the limits, it is advisable to start with the verification directly.
The limits on AnycoinDirect can protect you from spending too much money rashly. Because of the tiered system, you have to deal with your system regularly. This can of course be annoying, but it can also save you from losing a lot of money.
Step | 24 hours | Weekly | Transactions / 24 hours |
step 1 | 100 € | € 250 | 2 |
Level 2 | € 400 | 1000 € | 3 |
level 3 | 1000 € | 1500 € | 4th |
Level 4 | 1500 € | 5000 € | 5 |
Level 5 | 500 € * | € 25,000 | 8th |
To initiate the step-by-step verification, click on your profile in the upper right corner and select “Account”. On your account page you will find the option “Upgrade” on the left under the green “Level 1” badge. Click here and follow the instructions.
Buy & Sell Litecoin
We first assume that you’re not yet fully verified to have an account of the stage 1 verfügst. At the top of the page header, click Buy and select Litecoin.
You now have various means of payment available to buy Litecoin with AnycoinDirect , but the most convenient is probably the instant transfer. Depending on your financial institution, it can take 1-2 working days to process.
In addition to the instant transfer, the SEPA transfer can also be used. In order to be able to use it, however, you first have to upload an identification document to the site.
Incidentally, this also works if your account only has level 1. To do this, go to your account page as described above and click on “Upgrade”.
Now you enter your desired amount and (inevitably) stick to your level-related purchase limit. Click on “Select your bank account”, select “New bank account” and follow the simple instructions to verify your bank account.
Once you’ve done that, all that’s missing is your Litecoin wallet address. Wear them in a mask. Then you can scroll down a little on the same page, check the box next to “Accept terms of use” and click on “Buy Litecoin”. With this, you bought your first Litecoin!
In the following, we are looking for possible alternatives that are suitable for trading Litecoin. The Changelly platform, for example, offers the option to buy Bitcoin with a credit card, and you can also buy Litecoin with a credit card here.
Alternatively, you could easily buy your first bitcoins here and then transfer them to your Binance or AnycoinDirect account to exchange them for Litecoin .
You can also buy Bitcoin with a credit card on CEX .
Litecoin is unfortunately not listed on this crypto exchange .
CEX is therefore suitable as an entry point for your first investment in Bitcoin: In order to buy Litecoin, you will then have to transfer your coins to a platform that has Litecoin on offer.
We recommend Roinvesting for this.
Litecoin is a cryptocurrency from the very beginning.
As such, it is well integrated into the market: Litecoin has been among the 10 largest cryptocurrencies measured by market capitalization for years. Litecoin can also do a lot technically, as evidenced by the early integration of the Lightning network, which enables particularly fast transactions.
After MarketCap has Litecoin to in December 2018 8th Place. For the current ranking visit CMC.
With its better scalability and less centralized mining, Litecoin is a serious bitcoin competitor, making it a good option in any portfolio.
Against an investment in Litecoin speaks so little – apart from the general volatility of the market of cryptocurrencies. The low prices in December 2018 invite you to invest. It is also conceivable, however, that prices will fall even further and that renewed hype will not arise.
Alternatively, our recommendation: Buy cryptos at Roinvesting
In general, buying Litecoin with a credit card is easy on ROinvesting.
At this point, we would like to point out alternative ways of buying Litecoin, for example on Changelly or cex.io.
On both crypto exchanges, you can buy Bitcoin with a credit card and then transfer it to Binance or AnycoinDirect.
You can use this detour to buy Litecoin using your credit card. Buying Litecoin directly with a credit card is also possible on Changelly.
Unfortunately, we can not name a reputable exchange through which you can currently buy Litecoin with PayPal.
To invest in cryptocurrencies via PayPal, you can use the crypto broker Roinvesting recommended by the editors.
So-called CFDs are traded here. Trading CFDs involves high risks, but all the more opportunities if you understand how to read the market.
Instructions for getting started with your first Litecoin investment with Roinvesting can be found at the top of this page.
Litecoin can also be bought via instant transfer, but also via SEPA transfer on LiteBit.EU.
To do this, you first need an account, which you have to verify step by step, as on other platforms.
Once that is done, you can specify how many Litecoin (LTC) you want to buy, similar to AnycoinDirect, and then complete the trade quickly and easily using the payment method of your choice.
To buy Litecoin in this way, too, a Litecoin wallet is mandatory. Enter your wallet address in the field provided and complete the transaction.
Do I need a wallet to trade Litecoin? Not mandatory: In theory, you can simply leave your LTC on Roinvesting, Binance and many other crypto exchanges ( such as Kraken).
With other exchanges such AnycoinDirect you can only purchase Litecoin then if you have a Litecoin Wallet verfügst. Basically, it is always a good idea to get a suitable wallet for your system.
Because those who rely on the stock exchanges accept a certain risk: If an exchange unexpectedly reports bankruptcy, you can lose your cryptocurrency.
Those investors who decide to invest with a CFD broker such as our test winner Skilling can do without a wallet: Because you do not buy the cryptocurrency directly when trading CFDs, a wallet is not required here.
A wallet is absolutely necessary when buying Litecoin with Sofortüberweisung or SEPA on AnycoinDirect!
But not when buying Litecoin with Bitcoin on Roinvesting or, for example, when buying Litecoin with Kraken. You can also do without a wallet when trading with our test winner.
The Electrum Litecoin Wallet is a particularly secure wallet.
The Electrum Litecoin Wallet comes from a German provider based in Berlin, is easy to use and offers German-language support in an emergency (e.g. on Twitter).
Litecoin is very similar to Bitcoin but can trump its big sister with greater scalability and thus faster transactions.
Thanks to the early involvement of SegWit and the Lightning Network, Litecoin is technically up to date.
After market capitalisation Litecoin in December 2018, according to Coinmarketcap the 8th place in the market, which has not changed to this day.
In order for LTC to invest one uses best the services of the test winner Roinvesting.
The low minimum deposit and the particularly uncomplicated menu navigation make the broker the ideal entry-level platform.
Trading with CFDs enables great profit potential through leverage.
Even those who really want to buy LTC as a coin is in good hands on Roinvesting with or without their own Litecoin wallet .
You can buy Litecoin with real money via Sofortüberweisung, SEPA and other payment methods on the AnycoinDirect platform described above. Alternatively, if you already have Bitcoin, you can swap LTC for Bitcoin instead.
Buying Litecoin with Bitcoin is particularly fast, for example on Binance. You can also buy other cryptocurrencies such as Ethereum on most crypto exchanges.
Buying Litecoin with a credit card is possible on Challengy, for example. You can also take a detour to buy Litecoin with a credit card by first buying Bitcoin and then exchanging it for LTC.
Both ways are described in our instructions at the top of this page, see for example the sections about Challengy and about CEX.
Yes, but only with ROinvesting. It is the best financial service provider known to us that accepts PayPal as a method of payment.
Litecoin can be expected to benefit when the market begins to grow again overall.
