Since October 2017, there has been a new star in the crypto sky: Tezos. The speciality: Tezos offers companies (and private individuals) a wrapping environment in which you can implement business models based on tokens. And that without having to develop a blockchain!
This article shows how and where you can best buy Tezos, which exchanges are available, and whether you can also get XTZ tokens with PayPal, SOFORT-Überweisung and Co.
Since Tezos has some differences from Bitcoin & Co, there are also differences in buying Bitcoin. Above all, one should pay attention to the following factors:

Buy Tezos: Only a few exchanges are available if you want to start trading the cryptocurrency Tezos. Which one is right for you also depends on how much you invest. Also relevant is the question: Do you want to buy Tezos with Bitcoin – or do you want to buy the Tezos Coin with a credit card? We’ll introduce you to our recommended exchange and guide you through the process step by step.
We use the broker ETFinance for this, as it offers the advantage that you can buy both real cryptocurrencies and CFDs – thus combining the advantages of a broker and an exchange. We will go into the difference between a broker and an exchange below.
In addition, there is unfortunately hardly any competition. Most providers either do not trade with Tezos or “force” you to buy another cryptocurrency first and then exchange it for Tezos. Still, others only offer CFDs, according to which you do not own an XTZ coin.
First, you register with a broker or a crypto exchange.
For our example,, we have chosen ETFinance to buy real Tezos to hold and Tezos derivatives to speculate.
First, we click the link to register for ETFinance:
Then, in the form, we enter username, email and password and accept the terms and conditions:
We then receive an email for verification in which we click on the link to confirm the account.
In the next step, we have to top up our account with money to be able to buy Tezos. To do this, we click on the “Deposit money” button at ETFinance:
Then we select the amount and payment method with which we would like to deposit, and then click on the “Send” button to deposit the amount.
In our example, we show the purchase with a credit card. ETFinance also offers other deposit options :
Payment option | Possible? |
Buy Tezos with a credit card | ✔️ |
Buy Tezos with PayPal | ✔️ |
Buy Tezos with Rapid Transfer | ✔️ |
Buy Tezos with Skrill | ✔️ |
Buy Tezos with bank transfer | ✔️ |
Buy Tezos with Neteller | ✔️ |
Buy Tezos with UnionPay | ✔️ |
Now that we have topped up our account, we can begin the actual purchase of Tezos. To do this, we click in the search field above and enter “Tezos” there.
Then we click on the “Trade” button:
The purchase window then opens. Here we have the following options:
After configuring all options, we click on the “Open Trade” button to complete the purchase.
Then we have the Tezos in our portfolio. The purchase is complete!
Now that we’ve shown how to buy Tezos quickly, easily and safely, there are, of course, other ways as well.
The question of how and where best to buy Tezos is closely related to the second question, namely whether you want to hold Tezos for the long term or speculate on the price development in the short term.
For short-term speculation, a CFD broker is recommended, where you can speculate on the price development of Tezos without holding the underlying asset directly. The advantage of a broker is that you can also trade with leverages so that even small price fluctuations can result in high profits or losses.
If you want to keep Tezos longer, you are better off with a crypto exchange:

Our recommendation: Buy cryptos at ETFinance
It is not easy to say whether it is worth investing in Tezos. In general, the crypto market is subject to great fluctuations. In addition, there are currently no regulations, which is why fraud with cryptocurrencies is still flourishing. For these reasons, one should not choose one’s investment lightly. Of course, this also applies to Tezos. But, on the other hand, despite its young history, Tezos is already quite strong. Moreover, the large market capitalisation promises a comparatively manageable risk compared to other cryptocurrencies.
Tezos (XTZ) is a decentralised, blockchain-based cryptocurrency and a platform for decentralised applications. Like Ethereum, the platform offers a development environment in which companies or private individuals can implement their token-based business models without developing a blockchain themselves. That is why smart contracts are an integral part of the Tezos ecosystem.
Tezos uses a Delegated Proof-of-Work-Algorithm (DPoS), enabling stakeholders to influence the platform’s further development and be rewarded for validating transactions in the network. For example, the stakeholders can choose to pay individuals or groups to work on the Tezos Protocol. In this way, Tezos promises, the ecosystem should optimise and develop on its own.
Tezos was officially launched in September 2018 after the company raised a record $ 232 million in an ICO. The cryptocurrency development was initiated in 2014 by the founders Arthur and Kathleen Breitman with a core group of developers. The Tezos Foundation, headed by Ryan Jesperson, is primarily responsible for asset management and further developing the protocol and the Tezos ecosystem.
The rights to the source code are owned by the founding company Dynamic Ledger Solutions, whose managing directors are Kathleen and Arthur Breitman. The DLS company has its main headquarters in Switzerland.
After the ICO, there were upheavals at Tezos between the founding company DLS and the Tezos Foundation. The Tezos course then collapsed for a short time. However, after the then President of the Foundation, Johann Gevers, finally left the company due to the dispute (and received a severance payment of $ 400,000), the problems subsided, and the development of the Tezos ecosystem advanced. Today Tezos ranks 17th in the ranking of the largest cryptocurrencies by market capitalisation. The market capitalisation is around 700 million euros.
To make the fees when buying Tezos comparable, let’s assume the following example:
With these assumptions, we now go through the fees of our test winner:

Purchase fees | 5% |
Holding fees | for free |
Sales charges | 5% |

Total fees | € 101.69 |
Do you need a wallet to trade with Tezos? Not necessarily. For example, on ETFinance, it is possible to keep Tezos on your account. However, it is recommended to transfer the coin to the in-house wallet. A software wallet is undoubtedly a good option for your coins for the first time. However, if you want to keep Tezos for a longer period, we recommend a hardware wallet instead, as security is unsurpassed.
There are many wallets with which you can store and use Tezos. You can read here which wallets the company recommends to its users. There is also support for common hardware wallets.
Since some criteria must be observed here that would go beyond the scope of this article, here is the link to the wallet comparison :
The cryptocurrency has already had a few highs and lows. We show the most important milestones in the history of Tezos.
Various forums like to discuss how to buy Tezos shares. Unfortunately, such interested dealers are a little ahead of their time.
Furthermore, Tezos is more involved in research and cooperates with well-known educational institutes such as the IMDEA Software Institute, Korea University Blockchain Research Institute, Konkuk University and many more. Since these companies are not stock corporations, alternatives are more likely to fall back on the competition or products used to mine Tezos.
Otherwise, other cryptocurrencies have potential :
Another alternative is crypto stocks: chip manufacturers, mining companies and even the Bitcoin Group have posted substantial profits.
How to buy Tezos Tezos can be bought for real money or cryptocurrencies on the platforms described above. We recommend buying Tezos from Kraken.
Despite a long search, we were unable to find a wallet where you can buy Tezos with a credit card.
Unfortunately, buying Tezos with PayPal is also not possible on any of our usual exchanges.
Only time can tell. The opinions of the experts differ widely here.
With buy and sell orders, you can decide for yourself when trading whether you prefer to bet on rising or falling prices. If the overall market continues to grow, Tezos is likely to benefit.
