The guide to the XTZ token

This article shows how and where you can best buy Tezos, which exchanges are available, and whether you can also get XTZ tokens with PayPal, SOFORT-Überweisung and Co.

Buying Tezos: what to look for

Since Tezos has some differences from Bitcoin & Co, there are also differences in buying Bitcoin. Above all, one should pay attention to the following factors:

  • Where is the best place to buy Tezos? Tezos is best bought at the # 1 when it comes to brokers/exchanges – ETFinance. With our test winner, you can purchase real Tezos and leveraged Tezos CFDs, thousands of stocks, ETFs, and much more. And that with meagre fees.
  • Do I want to hold Tezos for the long term, use it for IoT applications or speculate on the course? As with all cryptocurrencies, we recommend that you act quickly because they are very volatile. We also see Tezos in an excellent position in the long term. More money can be made with the coin with quick reactive behaviour.
  • How does a Tezos wallet work? A Tezos wallet works like any other crypto wallet. A detailed description can be found in this article.
  • Is it worth investing in Tezos? Yes! According to our experts’ analysis, the big Tezos hype is still ahead. We, therefore, recommend investing in this coin.

How to buy Tezos: a three-step guide

Buy Tezos: Only a few exchanges are available if you want to start trading the cryptocurrency Tezos. Which one is right for you also depends on how much you invest. Also relevant is the question: Do you want to buy Tezos with Bitcoin – or do you want to buy the Tezos Coin with a credit card? We’ll introduce you to our recommended exchange and guide you through the process step by step.

We use the broker ETFinance for this, as it offers the advantage that you can buy both real cryptocurrencies and CFDs – thus combining the advantages of a broker and an exchange. We will go into the difference between a broker and an exchange below.

etfinance

In addition, there is unfortunately hardly any competition. Most providers either do not trade with Tezos or “force” you to buy another cryptocurrency first and then exchange it for Tezos. Still, others only offer CFDs, according to which you do not own an XTZ coin.

First step: Registration with a broker or a crypto exchange

First, you register with a broker or a crypto exchange.

For our example,, we have chosen ETFinance to buy real Tezos to hold and Tezos derivatives to speculate.

First, we click the link to register for ETFinance:

Then, in the form, we enter username, email and password and accept the terms and conditions:

We then receive an email for verification in which we click on the link to confirm the account.

Second step: top up your account

In the next step, we have to top up our account with money to be able to buy Tezos. To do this, we click on the “Deposit money” button at ETFinance:

Then we select the amount and payment method with which we would like to deposit, and then click on the “Send” button to deposit the amount.

Buy Tezos Coin with PayPal and more

In our example, we show the purchase with a credit card. ETFinance also offers other deposit options :

Buy Tezos with PayPal✔️
Buy Tezos with Rapid Transfer✔️
Buy Tezos with Skrill✔️
Buy Tezos with bank transfer✔️
Buy Tezos with Neteller✔️
Buy Tezos with UnionPay✔️

Third step: buy Tezos

Now that we have topped up our account, we can begin the actual purchase of Tezos. To do this, we click in the search field above and enter “Tezos” there.

Then we click on the “Trade” button:

The purchase window then opens. Here we have the following options:

  1. Buy or sell: In our case, we have to put it on “Buy.”
  2. Trade or orders: Here, we can choose whether to execute the trade immediately (trade) or with a delay (order).
  3. Amount: How many Tezos we would like to buy?
  4. Stop Loss and Take Profit: At what loss or profit our position should be automatically sold?
  5. Leverage: With what leverage do we buy Tezos? WithX1, we buy Tezos; with leverage X2, we buy leveraged Tezos CFDs.

After configuring all options, we click on the “Open Trade” button to complete the purchase.

Then we have the Tezos in our portfolio. The purchase is complete!

Broker or stock exchange: where is the best place to buy Tezos?

Now that we’ve shown how to buy Tezos quickly, easily and safely, there are, of course, other ways as well.

The question of how and where best to buy Tezos is closely related to the second question, namely whether you want to hold Tezos for the long term or speculate on the price development in the short term.

For short-term speculation, a CFD broker is recommended, where you can speculate on the price development of Tezos without holding the underlying asset directly. The advantage of a broker is that you can also trade with leverages so that even small price fluctuations can result in high profits or losses.

If you want to keep Tezos longer, you are better off with a crypto exchange:

Buy Tezos or not?

Buy Tezos

It is not easy to say whether it is worth investing in Tezos. In general, the crypto market is subject to great fluctuations. In addition, there are currently no regulations, which is why fraud with cryptocurrencies is still flourishing. For these reasons, one should not choose one’s investment lightly. Of course, this also applies to Tezos. But, on the other hand, despite its young history, Tezos is already quite strong. Moreover, the large market capitalisation promises a comparatively manageable risk compared to other cryptocurrencies.

Pros and cons of Tezos investment

  • Great community
  • dApps and Smart Contracts
  • DPoS algorithm for finding consensus in the network
  • Good spread
  • Lack of regulation of cryptocurrencies
  • So far only available on a few exchanges

Tezos (XTZ) is a decentralised, blockchain-based cryptocurrency and a platform for decentralised applications. Like Ethereum, the platform offers a development environment in which companies or private individuals can implement their token-based business models without developing a blockchain themselves. That is why smart contracts are an integral part of the Tezos ecosystem.

Tezos uses a Delegated Proof-of-Work-Algorithm (DPoS), enabling stakeholders to influence the platform’s further development and be rewarded for validating transactions in the network. For example, the stakeholders can choose to pay individuals or groups to work on the Tezos Protocol. In this way, Tezos promises, the ecosystem should optimise and develop on its own.

Tezos was officially launched in September 2018 after the company raised a record $ 232 million in an ICO. The cryptocurrency development was initiated in 2014 by the founders Arthur and Kathleen Breitman with a core group of developers. The Tezos Foundation, headed by Ryan Jesperson, is primarily responsible for asset management and further developing the protocol and the Tezos ecosystem.

The rights to the source code are owned by the founding company Dynamic Ledger Solutions, whose managing directors are Kathleen and Arthur Breitman. The DLS company has its main headquarters in Switzerland.

After the ICO, there were upheavals at Tezos between the founding company DLS and the Tezos Foundation. The Tezos course then collapsed for a short time. However, after the then President of the Foundation, Johann Gevers, finally left the company due to the dispute (and received a severance payment of $ 400,000), the problems subsided, and the development of the Tezos ecosystem advanced. Today Tezos ranks 17th in the ranking of the largest cryptocurrencies by market capitalisation. The market capitalisation is around 700 million euros.

What are the fees for buying Tezos?

Buy Tezos

To make the fees when buying Tezos comparable, let’s assume the following example:

  • We want to buy Tezos worth € 1,000
  • We want to keep the Tezos for a year and then pay them back to our account in euros
  • For the sake of simplicity, let’s assume that the course does not change that year

With these assumptions, we now go through the fees of our test winner:

Tezos wallets: which wallets are useful for storage after purchase?

Do you need a wallet to trade with Tezos? Not necessarily. For example, on ETFinance, it is possible to keep Tezos on your account. However, it is recommended to transfer the coin to the in-house wallet. A software wallet is undoubtedly a good option for your coins for the first time. However, if you want to keep Tezos for a longer period, we recommend a hardware wallet instead, as security is unsurpassed.

There are many wallets with which you can store and use Tezos. You can read here which wallets the company recommends to its users. There is also support for common hardware wallets.

Since some criteria must be observed here that would go beyond the scope of this article, here is the link to the wallet comparison :

Historical Tezos Course: Major Milestones in Tezos History

The cryptocurrency has already had a few highs and lows. We show the most important milestones in the history of Tezos.

  1. December 2017:  Tezos managed to pump investments of over 200 million euros into your product in a short time. The price shot from just under € 1.35 to an astronomical € 8.96. That’s over 560% in less than a month. However, shortly after one month, the Tezos fell back to just under 2.50 € because Tezos was still in its infancy.
  2. February 2018:  The auditing company “Least Authority” rated Tezos with five hoes, which caused the Tezos price to rise from ~ 2.50 € to ~ 3.50 € for a short time.
  3. June 2018:  Due to the actual publication of the actual coin, the price rose over four months from € 2 to over € 4. However, the hype did not last long and together with other cryptocurrencies. As a result, the Tezos price fell to below € 2.
  4. May 2019:  The Marigold Update from Tezos let the price rise slowly for months. So the course went up.
  5. February 2020:  The publication of the targets for payments and updates to the core protocol etc., brought Tezos to a new shine. The Tezos price rose from just under € 1 to over € 3. However, the pandemic stepped through the stock market and dropped the coin again.
  6. May 2020:  After the first horrors of global disease, Tezos continued its ascent and two months later almost reached the level of 2 months ago.
  7. August 2020:  Congress announced that you don’t want to over-tax Tezos staking rewards. Since Tezos is on the proof-of-stake, this represented a clear buy recommendation for Tezos for the shareholders. The price rose to almost € 4 within a short time.
Alternatives to Tezos: buy other cryptocurrencies or stocks

Buy Tezos

Various forums like to discuss how to buy Tezos shares. Unfortunately, such interested dealers are a little ahead of their time.

Furthermore, Tezos is more involved in research and cooperates with well-known educational institutes such as the IMDEA Software Institute, Korea University Blockchain Research Institute, Konkuk University and many more. Since these companies are not stock corporations, alternatives are more likely to fall back on the competition or products used to mine Tezos.

Alternative 1: Opportunities in the field of cryptocurrencies

Otherwise, other cryptocurrencies have potential :

  • Buy Bitcoin: The top dog among cryptocurrencies is seen by many as the “digital gold” and one of the most stable cryptos.
  • Buy Ripple: With the support of many banks, Ripple is a good alternative to Tezos.
  • Buy Ethereum: Ethereum is the solution for smart contracts and, in the broadest sense, follows an approach similar to Tezos.

Alternative 2: crypto stocks

Another alternative is crypto stocks: chip manufacturers, mining companies and even the Bitcoin Group have posted substantial profits.

  • Bitcoin stocks: If you think that Bitcoin will outperform Tezos, Bitcoin stocks are a good alternative
  • NVIDIA stocks: NVIDIA manufactures necessary graphics chips, especially for mining – if the crypto boom continues, NVIDIA is undoubtedly a good investment

FAQs

How to buy Tezos Tezos can be bought for real money or cryptocurrencies on the platforms described above. We recommend buying Tezos from Kraken.

Despite a long search, we were unable to find a wallet where you can buy Tezos with a credit card.

Unfortunately, buying Tezos with PayPal is also not possible on any of our usual exchanges.

Only time can tell. The opinions of the experts differ widely here.

With buy and sell orders, you can decide for yourself when trading whether you prefer to bet on rising or falling prices. If the overall market continues to grow, Tezos is likely to benefit.
